Weak Week

Well I had managed to cut a poem and my confidence was fairly confident. “The world is now my paper-cut Oyster” I thought to myself.  Karma at this point was probably having a similar metaphorical reaction except its went like this – “Mwahahahahahaahahahaa” cue diabolically finger movements.

The beginning of my week was rather positive. Having been stumped at finding a psychic Framer for my little cuts of joy (how wrong that sounds) I tried one last place (tried 13 places prior). I described how I wanted my ‘art’ (turns out ‘Paper Cutting’ is not universally known) to float like magic – A lovely young chap (handsome, blue eyes…engaged…darn) solved my problem. He asked me “How much would you be willing to pay?” and I gave him a number and he said “Agreed”. We even shook paws.  Sorted.

When I skipped over to my neighbour’s house (she’s my Scribblecub because I’m the wolf….we thought it was clever) I ignored the ambulance. It must have been for someone else. It was not.  She’d collapsed. I won’t go into detail but I didn’t get her home until tonight. And bless her, the first thing she asked me up at the hospital was “Did you bring the papercutting stuff? I’m ready for the horse now”.  She might be terminal but she’s a fighter.  I really do admire her strength (and on Tuesday I did, indeed, bring her papercutting kit with me. I asked her if I could post it online – she said “Only when I’m good enough”. I think she’s already good enough but she wants to wait and surprise her family  She’s been unwell for a while and as a result hasn’t really had the opportunity to try new things. This Christmas my gift to her was Candle Making, Mosaic, Sand Art for Grown Ups, Painting, Fantasy Dip etc. and at the end of the first month of wonderment  I pulled out Papercutting. I said I just wanted to try it. We’ve been doing it every second or third night now).

The rest of week went south for the winter. I came back home and bounced into bed only to discover that my cat (who has been perfectly trained) had had explosive diarrhea on the bed. Now I can’t cope with gerbil poo so you can imagine the scolding shower I jumped into, the antibacterial spray (designed for kitchens) that got used as bodywash and the bleach & fabric cleaner I used on my mattress and the general hullaballo (I love that word).

On Wednesday I tried my first papercut of the week. I thought I would try an improve my letter cuttings…unfortunately it was my designs that needed the overhaul – you can guess what happened with my first try-

dud

Cheerfully I name it “The Dud”.

ledudtwo2 The next one worked slightly better. But it made me redraw some other designs from scratch. It was such a rookie mistake but I’m only little.  Redesigning took time.

I also decided to calm myself and start with simpler cuts. Apologies for the blurriness of this photo – the camera (much like myself) preferred focusing on the penny but it gives you a rough idea.

alice in wonderhellThe cheshure cat has teeth, the bottle has ‘Drink Me’ on it and the white/now brown rabbit has a clock on him (much like My Little Pony)

It wasn’t my best doodle but I will cut it again tomorrow. My favourite part is the ‘tea party’ homage on the top of the design with the mad hatters hat.

By now it’s Thursday/Friday at 00:29 and I’m panicking. What if my followers/readers think that I’m slacking off?! And then I read some tweets and note: Alot of people liked the dinosaur one and I remembered it being quite relaxing to cut. So I drew and cut this one for You.
